Collaborative Delivery is Sweeping the Construction (A/E/C) Industry

The construction industry is moving swiftly toward using collaborative project delivery models and they require a collaborative atmosphere to work. (Progressive Design/Build, Design/Build, CMAR, IPD, etc.). And…collaboration works on low bid projects too.

The expectation that owners, contractors/builders, designers, CM/PMs, and suppliers, know how to create a collaborative project team is real and growing – and this expectation extends to your low bid projects.

IPI Exists to Help Our Members Learn the Secrets to Creating Collaborative Project Teams

IPI was started in 2007 as a 501 C 3 nonprofit, by a group of owners, contractors, construction managers and designers who were practitioners of partnering. They joined together because they wanted to share with the industry how they were achieving what they believed to be remarkable results. It was the founders’ hope to share with the entire construction (A/E/C) industry what had worked for them.

                        5-10%                       Cost Savings

                        5-10%                        Schedule Saving

                        Significant               Safety Improvement

                        Significant               Quality Improvement

                        12%                           Happier Team Members

                        75%                           Reduction in Claims

Based on our founders’ experience, IPI created the Collaborative Partnering Framework, tools, and tactics, so that anyone can know what partnering elements to use, and at what frequency you should use each on your project. This includes the IPI Matrix, Collaborative Partnering specifications, guidebooks, and more. All of these are available today for IPI members. Along with, connecting with and learning from others who are achieving great results from their partnering efforts. As well as mentoring people just starting their Collaborative Partnering journey.

Many of our members say that IPI is the best kept secret in the industry. We hope you will join us so you can learn what our members know works to create highly successful projects.

IPI Is Here to Be Your Project Collaboration Guide

IPI has gone on to sponsor four university level studies on the efficacy of the Collaborative Partnering Framework. Our goal is always to help others to achieve the remarkable results that our founders achieved.

Today IPI has members from every sector in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industry and is the foremost authority on Collaborative Partnering, and in how to establish and grow a high performing project team.  As Partnering continues to evolve, IPI is on the leading edge to share these improvements with its members.

Every day, IPI’s members see how project delivery is changing. Already, most of the large projects are using a form of collaborative project delivery. Our members understand there is a learning curve to a collaborative way of doing business, and that it is becoming more and more essential to know how to create a collaborative environment. You are busy running your project(s). IPI membership can help you shorten your learning curve.

IPI is on the forefront of evolving collaborative partnering models, proving their efficacy, and training our members in how to use them successfully on their construction projects.

You Can’t Teach What You Don’t Know… And IPI Members Know How to Create Collaborative Project Teams

We hear every day about projects using a collaborative delivery method, while still having the same old adversarial – “us versus them” atmosphere. The expectations of a high trust and collaborative relationship too often spirals into a war zone of disappointments, wasted effort and wasted resources. A lose/lose for everyone involved. And the level of stress the team members carry is tremendous.

We also hear about owners, contactors, and CM/PMs who take on collaborative delivery method projects, without changing anything about the way their team-of-teams operates. How your team operates determines your level of success. On every project, you must behave your way to success.

Imagine having your project be able to deliver $1M of work per day and complete a two-year long project in 90 days. Imagine performing $2M of work per day for two weeks instead of two years. Imagine planning, programming, designing, activating and opening a 200,000 square foot building in 18 months saving 40% in total costs over all similar buildings in the United States. These are real examples of what’s possible.

What would it be like getting up in the morning and looking forward to getting to your project - knowing that there will be challenges and that your project team will resolve every issue looking for the one with optimal benefit for and minimal impact to the project. The team-of-teams works together, not against each other.

Yes, the construction industry is moving toward using more collaborative delivery methods. To succeed, your team must operate as a high-trust, high-performing, team-of-teams. Hoping that everyone will cooperate and collaborate on your project is not a strategy. IPI is the place to go if you want to learn about creating a collaborative atmosphere on your construction projects. IPI has proven, battle tested, and researched strategies and tools you can implement on your projects to increase trust and collaboration – and fun! And you can’t beat the lessons learned IPI members have to share about their experiences that can help you succeed.
