CM/PM
Representing an Owner as a CM or PM can be very challenging. You are often given all the responsibility for the project’s success but have no authority to make it happen. You probably see how collaborative delivery methods are sweeping across the construction industry and more and more owners are using them on their projects. Today approximately 50% of projects are delivered with some kind of collaborative delivery method, but each year that percentage grows by around 5-6% and is accelerating. Owners are looking for cost certainty. According to FMI’s research, the low bid delivery method was voted as the worst for cost controls and Progressive Design/Build was voted the best for cost controls. Collaborative delivery methods (Progressive Design/Build, Design/Build, CMAR, IPD, etc.) offer construction managers a chance to have more effect on the outcomes of the projects they lead. But collaborative delivery methods REQUIRE collaboration to work. As a CM or PM, the more collaboration you can create amongst the team-of-teams working together to deliver your project – the better your results will be. This might just be your most effective sustainable competitive advantage.
