Designer

As the project designer, you want your vision for the project to come to fruition. All too often though you get caught up in having to reduce the cost of the project or trying to resolve a problem when there is poor project communication and/or coordination. So, you can end up feeling like the project scapegoat. There is a reason why collaborative delivery methods are sweeping across the construction industry. Today it’s around 50% of projects, but each year that percentage grows by around 5-6% and is accelerating. According to FMI’s research, the low-bid delivery method was voted as the worst for cost controls, and Progressive Design/Build was voted the best for cost controls. Collaborative delivery methods (Progressive Design/Build, Design/Build, CMAR, IPD, etc.) offer designers the ability to support the project team and offer their expertise. With this kind of relationship, you can better ensure your design is understood and built. But collaborative delivery methods REQUIRE collaboration to work. The more collaboration you can create amongst the team-of-teams working together to deliver your project – the better your results will be.
