Without suppliers who know how to work with our teams, there would be no construction projects built. Whether you are providing materials, equipment, technology, or a professional service, your integration into a project team is critical, and becoming more and more important, as collaborative delivery methods continue to sweep across the construction industry. Instead of being seen as “outside” the project, suppliers are being seen as “part of”, and integral to, the success of every project. Today it’s around 50% of projects that are using collaborative delivery methods. But each year that percentage grows by around 5-6% and is accelerating. According to FMI’s research, the low-bid delivery method was voted as the worst for cost controls, and Progressive Design/Build was voted the best for cost controls. Collaborative delivery methods (Progressive Design/Build, Design/Build, CMAR, IPD, etc.) allow project teams to get smarter, get better, and to go faster. This can only happen if the suppliers are integrated into the team and in lockstep with what is needed and by when. Collaborative delivery methods REQUIRE collaboration to work.
